Bob Kidd Lake is a public, 200-acre lake owned by the Game and Fish Commission near the Prairie Grove community in Arkansas. Fayetteville is under 20 miles away, and near the Arkansas-Oklahoma border.
The lake is 30 minutes from Siloam Spring Regional Hospital and an hour from Northwest Arkansas National Airport. It’s within 10 minutes from Harps Food Store, a local supermarket chain in four states and there are public schools in Prairie Grove.
It derives its name from Bob Kidd, a former slave who farmed the land where the lake now sits.
Those who enjoy the outdoors will have a heyday on Bob Kidd Lake. Anglers can cast in from shore or boat and can expect to catch bluegill, channel catfish, crappie, largemouth bass, and redear sunfish. There is a concrete boat ramp and wooden dock on the northeast side of the lake.
Bob Kidd Lake is also a popular destination for those eager to go duck hunting. It is birded steadily in the fall.
The Prairie Grove Aquatic Park is open seven days a week from May to August. The park offers seasonal and family options, as well as swimming lessons and water aerobics classes.
Hungry Bob Kidd Lake residents can make the short drive to Fat Rolls, a breakfast and comfort food eatery that is adored locally.
Prairie Grove is home to one of the most well-preserved Civil War battlefields in the country at the Prairie Grove Battlefield State Park.
The battle of Prairie Grove began on December 7, 1862, and resulted in 2,700 casualties. The park offers walking and driving tours, as well as weekend events, and admission to the park is free.
Alternatively, the Arkansas Air and Military Museum nearby displays the history of aviation in Arkansas and the United States. The museum showcases an array of aviation artifacts including Vietnam-era Army helicopters and a Navy carrier fighter.
Whether you’re a history buff or an avid adventurer (or both), we highly suggest looking into Bob Kidd Lake. It just might be the location of your next lake home!
